In all seriousness though, it’s been quite some time since we got some drum n bass up on the old blog, which sort of bugs me, because if there’s anything that really needs to make a full on comeback, it’s drum n bass. And I know, some people will argue that it already has; a lot of the dubstep shows in LA these days will feature a dnb act or two, but most of the time is almost as a novelty. It’s not a drum n bass show, it’s a dubstep show with a party planner at the helm that walks around while the guy DJ’s going, “HA HA, remember when?”
And sure, there was that night we had Pendulum at Control, but claiming that as proof that dnb is back is like claiming classic rock is back because the Stones sold out the Hollywood Bowl. Not…so much.
What I’d like to see is a full on resurgence. That means there should be an underground scene that thrives equally as heartily as the mainstream one does. There should be hi-fi and lo-fi, and there should be that one crazy artist that is somehow just miles ahead of everyone else that takes it to the next level… like Eskmo to dubstep, or Gartner to electro. I wanna sit and listen to tracks that make me show my ‘O’ face and go, “I never would have thought of that!”
Drum n bass should come back man. Seriously. And it should bring Jungle and Garage with it. Yeahhh….. jungle, garage, and dnb…. #salivation
