Steve Aoki is everything that is wrong with this scene at the moment, one of the worst DJs out there, so he jumps about and screams, wow. He's playing the same boring bangers time and time again to kids who don't have a clue about dance music.

I have a video from the Paris Hilton video on my blog. To bad it got relased onto the internet for everyone to view. She did not want it to be released as it was her ex boyfriend Rick Salomon that lost it.

i for sure see what your saying, but i still think when people see a-trak (at least the people who go listen to the music and not just roll) they hold the same respect for him as they do for a bazerking, crownd jumping beetroot, or aoki. they just dont get as wild cause hes not getting as wild. its a calm respect, as for the beetroots and aoki, they get a wild respect. anyone who goes to see both AND isnt as impressed by a-trak as by rifoki, then they go to shows for the experience or drugs and not for the music, mixing, scratching, and creativity. and phuck them!!! haha

dude..

first, You gotta understand one thing: we're all pretending. You are pretending, i am pretending - the whole world is pretending. remember that line from matrix "a déjà vu is usually a glitch in the matrix, it happens when they change something"? well it's the same thing - except it's real. every 'awkward' moment, moments that make You feel uncomfortable are like 'glitches' in your pretending-wall, cracks in our masks. it is this moment that makes us feel naked - emotionally (although sometimes literally).
people who dj know exactly what they are doing is overpayed. i am going into djing myself and if You can recall the first time You got paid, You'll know what i'm talking about..

secondly, have You ever noticed how disliked a track at first because it was 'empty' or 'simple', but later, after You forgot about that track, You heard it on a sampler or comp or album and it seemed like a really cool tune until You read the title and You realized You've herad it before?! well that's because people like paintings more for color, rather than content. the context defines everything. if You'd prerecord Your set and leave the stage once You started the track, people wouldn't dance. if You'd pretend to dj and dance around a bit or dive into the crowd, people would go crazy. the difference? see point 1.

3rd. perception is reality. know that one? it's bitter because it's true. the pope wears a golden robe, the salesman wears a clean-cut suit, and rockstars wear extravagant clothing. You put a human being in a jungle, it'll never start talking or walking. to ask why people go crazy to steve aoki is to ask why people turn to the pope for spiritual guidance. it's the same reason why cheesy pick up lines still work.

never go into philosophical/theological issues searching for an 'answer'. is there was 'one truth', you'd know it when you hear it. unfortunately that's not the case.

Long time reader first time caller!

First up, love the blog ure thoughtful posts and ramblings about music is really a nice read every single time. Your always on point no matter what you write about and this post is not an exception.

I think it's time to realize that DJ's are starting to morph into artists and need to act accordingly. I got a good example here in Stockholm of chicks who gets booked to every single show there is and to be quite honest there mixing skills aint that great at all. But what they bring to the party is crazy outfits, energy, dancing while djing, and some really obscure circus music.

As I said before they are not that talented at all but people love to watch them dj and they really look like their having fun. I got a into a conversation with them once and they told me just that they see themself as artists, hence the stage clothes and what not.

Now im not telling every dj to dress up like a asian zookeeper but I guess it wouldn't hurt for djs to start acting like rockstars/artists if they wanna be competetive!
Thats just my 2 cents!

great post. it's sad that a-track wasn't appreciated more but i don't think people understand that he is actually scratching live rather than just playing it on some previously done track. people just don't get it. tear...
