Early Morning Music

One of the things I love about electronic music is the fact that it’s so movement-inducing. Most electronic music get the listener dancing (or at least tapping his feet, swaying back-and-forth or bobbing his head). There’s nothing quite like the sensation of “catching the beat” of a great song. And when the rest of the dance floor catches it with you? Even better. So it’s no surprise that most electronic music is listened to at night, when people are full of energy (read: Red Bull and vodka) and looking to blow off some steam after a long day. A thumping bassline and heavy drums sound great between midnight and 3AM, especially if you’re in a crowded room with flashing colored lights. But what about the morning after?

Light up crowded dance floor

If you’re anything like me (that is to say, listening to music at all times), you need something to pump through your speakers the next day. What are us electro-lovers supposed to listen to at 9AM when we’re blurry-eyed and hungover? Last night’s soundtrack is too heavy. We need a few hours to recover. Let’s start by ruling out what we don’t want: No heavy four-counts. No sudden in-your-face drops. Nothing that makes our heads hurt. We need something that makes us lightly tap our feet, not something that makes us wish we had stayed home last night. Something that says get out of bed, things are going to get better. I think I may have found the perfect artist.

Delorean

Ayrton Senna EP

Delorean is a group from Barcelona that pairs the dreamy feel of Cut Copy with softer vocals and lighter drums. Their latest effort is a four-song masterpiece called the Ayrton Senna EP. The above album art says it all: a beautiful collage of bright sounds and delicate melodies. Close your eyes while you listen to it and you’ll feel like you’re floating on a cloud. I’ve been playing it on repeat for about three days and it keeps getting better. The perfect way to start your day.

Delorean – Moonson

I’ll throw in one more “early morning song” for good measure. It’s by another of Australia’s talented musicians named Muscles. You may have heard this one already, as it’s been floating around for at least a year or so. But if you missed it, now is your chance to catch up. The chorus is going to get stuck in your head. Guaranteed.

If any of the tunes contained in this post happen to suit your taste, the artist would probably be thrilled if you considered buying them on iTunes, Beatport, or Amazon.

I never realized how some of the synths in “ice cream” are factory presets in reason

When around 4-5AM in the morning, during a party or on my way home from a party when it has died out, i always (as a rule) try to listen to a certain song, hopefully i have enough energy to listen to it 5 or 6 times before i pass out.

The song i’m talking about is one of Daft Punk’s, “Something About Us” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8RgMU9YYvA). Perfect song to start of the new day, or end the night before.

If i don’t have access to that one, i usually listen to another Daft Punk song, “Make Love” in particular. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BZHI_r4aBM)

Both really great songs, for chillin’, making out with the girl you’ve just met, or falling asleep on the floor.
